Amon Amarth
Sorry, we couldn't find any matches for your search
Amon Amarth is another name for Tolkien's Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings, and also lends its name to this band, whose music deals with Viking mythology and history. Impressive Viking ships are not uncommon on their sets, and their music features mythical sounds.
Amon Amarth is made up of lead singer Johan Hegg, guitarist Olavi Mikkonen, Ted Lundström on the bass, and drummer Jocke Wallgren, who replaced founding member Nico Kaukinen in 2016. Founded in 1992 in the quiet Stockholm suburb of Tumba, Amon Amarth have come a long way, and have become one of history's most influential death metal bands.
The band stand alongside many other melodic death metal bands such as Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom and Ensiferum. They owe their success to their extraordinary concerts and their unforgettable style, which is why Amon Amarth merchandise sells so well, including our Amon Amarth vinyls and studio album CDs.
Nordic death metal since 1992
Amon Amarth began under its former name Scum, and the band recorded a demo in 1992 that was never to see the light of day, its quality not considered to be acceptable. This didn't stop the band from pushing on, and so they radically changed Scum's sound. From grind metal came melodic death metal with sounds inspired by Norse mythology, as well as strong references to the Viking Age.
It wasn't just the fans who were captivated by the band's first EP "Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds", Metal Blade Records caught wind of them and decided to sign them up. Their long-awaited breakthrough came in 1998 in the form of their debut album "Once Sent from the Golden Hall", which was recorded by Peter Tägtgren.
Just a year later, Amon Amarth rocked the stage at Wacken Open Air and they have been returning to the world's biggest metalfest ever since!
Amon Amarth albums - a selection
"The Avenger" followed around a year after their debut album "Once Sent from the Golden Hall" was released, and it stays true to Amon Amarth's style. The Swedes brought another album out called "The Crusher", considered to be the band's most aggressive album. This set the bar high for "Versus the World", which was released in 2002.
"The Pursuit of Vikings" was one of the band's biggest success stories, and can simply be described as THE anthem. "With Oden on our Side" came out in 2006, and then "Twilight of the Thunder God" was next. This was said to be the Swedes' most successful album. "Jomsviking" became the band's 10th studio album, which was released in 2016.
Amon Amarth on course for success
"Jomsviking" was in many ways a novelty compared to the rest of the band's discography. The Swedes reached the top of several European charts for the first time in the band's history. New ideas coupled with their well-established hymn-like force and a decent amount of creativity made their tenth album stand out, it was true to their style and helped them to progress. "Jomsviking" was the band's first concept album that told the continuous narrative of the Jomsvikings, the legendary mercenaries of the far north.
