Nirvana were an american rock band founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. Short-lived but hugely popular, their music continues to influence modern rock and roll culture long after Cobain's death in 1994. You can’t head to a venue and see them live any more, but you can immortalise them forever on your clothing - so that this exceptional band will never be forgotten.
Smiley face logo t-shirt
The cult shirt of the cult band: Nirvana were pioneers in Grunge music, which is one of the many reasons they became one of the most influential bands of the nineties. The origin of the Nirvana “Smiley Face” is unknown, but most sources agree it was drawn by Kurt Cobain. The round (ish) face with it’s crossed-out eyes and drooling mouth first appeared on a flyer advertising the release of the ‘Nevermind’ album in September 1991 - and also on the “Corporate Rock Whores” Tee Shirt at around the same time.
There are lots of theories about what the logo means, which cover everything from substance misuse to the 'lusty lady' strip club in Seattle. Some protagonists have also speculated that it’s possible that it was just a doodle and meant nothing at all... but only Kurt himself would have known.
With the logo having such a strong association with the band, as you would expect at EMP we have a selection of T-shirts displaying this iconic print in various colours and fits. You will (of course), also find a ‘flower sniffin, kitty pettin, baby kissin, corporate rock whores’ T-shirt in the online shop.

‘In Utero’ was the last album made by Nirvana in the 90s. And just like the original album cover, a glass woman with angel wings also features on our ‘Nirvana In Utero’ t-shirt. This mottled blue shirt, which comes in sizes up to XXL, is also exclusive to EMP.

Nirvana ‘Faded Face’ t-shirt
What a guy, what a musician...Kurt Cobain and his band Nirvana were so influential on the scene in the 90's. It’s too bad that he was taken from us so young, however his music lives on. The black "Faded Faces" top features a band photo that will serve as a reminder of the pioneers of the grunge genre - and of course, it wouldn't be complete without the classic Nirvana lettering. R.I.P. Kurt Cobain!
