Industrial music

What is usually called "industrial" today has almost nothing to do with the origins of the genre. Industrial was pure noise, and on purpose! It was an art movement that primarily wanted to provoke. Things were depicted that were otherwise not brought into the limelight: War, diseases, violence, sex, death. In addition, there were disturbing sound collages that roared at the viewer while even more disturbing images were shown on large screens in the background. Bands like Throbbing Gristle conjured up one scandal after another through their performances. They were considered an avant-garde music group and the first representatives of classic industrial. Laibach were also well-known representatives of the mixture of action art and avant-garde music.

From this original industrial and post-industrial with bands like Einstürzende Neubauten, genres like power electronics, dark ambient, ritual, military pop, and death industrial emerged. The proximity to the black scene arose, among other things, through musical overlaps with electronic punk music and post-punk music. Well-known representatives here are Skinny Puppy, DAF and Die Krupps. Today, one speaks roughly of industrial rock and industrial metal when it comes to bands like Ministry or Nine Inch Nails, for example. In any case, it can be said that the original industrial music at some point brought the harder and military tones into the black scene.
