by Markus Eck (19.02.2010) There are some band names in the realm of melodic Death Metal which have an exceptional position in the throne hall - among them: At The Gates. The genre pioneers, still very popular, created great works, including their famous masterpiece "Slaughter of the soul". Few of their peers were able to deliver albums with similar clout or melodies. The band split in 1996, when they were most popular, and the former At The Gates musicians joined other bands. Some time ago, they played some reunion gigs, and those, together with the fact that At The Gates had a huge influence on the whole scene, led to the release of this 3-DVD package, presented in a special digipak with a 40-page, full colour booklet. The three discs ("Under a serpent sun - the story of At The Gates", "Purgatory unleashed - live at Wacken", and "Only the dead are smiling") include rare material, extensive documentations, several interviews and intense live footage.
