"Dead calm chaos" CD by Evocation

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (29.10.2008) The usual suspects like Grave and Dismember have already released their stuff this year, and maybe the Rogga invasion (with Ribspreader and Paganizer) might become dangerous - but so far, "Dead calm chaos" could be announced "Swedish Death album of the year 2008". Instead of just copying the old school vibes of their debut "Tales from the tomb", the five gentlemen from the Gothenburg area have honed their style: with accentuated soli, even more poisonous vocals and more variety, not only regarding speed. "Boundead" surprises with unusual arrangements, "Dead calm chaos" is much more melodious than one would have expected - and the similarities to At The Gates in this song are deceiving: Anders Bjoerler does play the lead guitar, that’s true - but on two other songs. Some have complained that "Silence sleep" which could be checked out in advance sounds like a typical Amon Amarth song. But this is a) moot - just listen to the faster parts, and b) a comparison the band could live with, I guess... Gorgeous!!
