by Andreas Reissnauer (10.04.2007) Wow! On their fourth album, Finntroll has again improved in heaviness. If you expected that the Finns would rather become more mass-compatible, you are proven wrong. Obviously, the change on the microphone position - Wilska has left the band last year being replaced by Vreth now - had a massive, ass-kicking effect on the band for I haven't heard Finntroll so intense in years. Fast, cutting guitar riffs, pompous keyboards and the bickering, aggressive vocals of Vreth let "Ur jordens djup" (meaning as much as from the 'from the depths of earth') often come close to Black Metal. Of course, the typical Humppa-rhythms and the band's own keyboard melodies aren't missing this time, either. They are present everywhere and wonderfully loosen up the album. Accordingly, "Ur jordens djup" is probably the most variable album in the band's history because it bundles everything that Finntroll has been loved for by the fans. So lift your glasses!
