by Matthias Mader (15.09.2008) Sometimes you think you could guess the origin of a band just because of the names: Stephanie Dougherty sings, and Brendan Maguire is on the rhythm guitar - so, Deadly Sins must hail from Dublin, Ireland, of course - not! Deadly Sins call Boston (!) their hometown - got me there. Stephanie hung out with Dropkick Murphys, lead guitarero Billy Brown had played in Crash And Burn. Boston boasts a notable Hardcore and Punk tradition, and this Deadly Sins debut "Selling our weaknesses" fits into the respective name list of legends like the Lemonheads, The Queers, Society System Decontrol and Slapshot. Musically, you don’t get a Dropkick Murphys clone or something - last, but not least, Mrs. Dougherty’s voice is much too melodious for that. Deadly Sins offer a polished, mid-tempo Punk Rock (check out "Grey skies turn" or "Barely breathing") between Blondie and old No Doubt.
