by Andreas Reissnauer (20.04.2009) Usually, a phoenix rises from the ashes, they say. Metaphorically, that's also true in the case of Agathodaimon who needed a full five years to finish the successor of "Serpent´s embrace", consequently following the path once chosen. The Germans have long said good-bye to the orchestral Black Metal of their early days, the new album is laden with groovy guitars and the respective catchy riffing. Spiced up with partially epic keyboards, this makes for an enticing sound which should work very well especially when performed live. Two vocalists add to the atmosphere, Astrael delivering the mean and shrieking parts, and band leader-cum-guitarist Sathonys the clean and clear stuff which is quite versatile. "Phoenix" is over 70 minutes long - so all that variety is the right method to keep the fan excited and entertained.
