12.I Love This Town
by Marcel Anders (13.07.2007) It was supposed to become a pure Country album. Yet, what Jon Bon and his fellows recorded in Nashville, Tennessee has as much in common with Redneck-music, yodel, squaredance, stetson and horse dung as George W. Bush with democratic rights. The twelve songs produced by Mainstream impressario, John Shanks, rather represent the second part of "This left feels right". A nice fun project that the record millionaires from New Jersey put good old Rock'n'Roll next to emotional ballads and genuine Pop songs. Very original American, ultra-commercial and absolutely trimmed on radio airplay. Surprising is only the number of self-citations. "We got it going on" is a second "Keep the faith", "Everybody's broke" follows the trails of "It's my life" and "Stranger" is the big, heartbreaking ballad in the likes of "Bed of roses". Only "One step closer" and "(You want to) Make a memory", they get out the banjo and the fiddle. But that – fortunately – is the exception!
