8.SOMEWHERE SOME WOMAN
by Matthias Mader (30.03.2010) The list of Kyuss sound-alikes has become very long in the meantime, including such acts as Unida, or House Of Broken Promises, for example. One of the long-term names on said list is guitarist/singer Brant Bjork who has just come up with his ninth studio album. After "Punk Rock guilt", "Gods & goddesses" is his second solo thing released on his own label Low Desert Punk. With wry'n'dry desert Rock tracks à la "Dirty bird" or the shmash single "Somewhere some woman", Brant Bjork demonstrates impressively why the music media has awarded him the title "king of the Stoner Rock jungle". Zakk Wylde and his Black Label Society would so like to be as cool as Björk, but no chance. The Stoner specialist refrains totally from that boring guitar twiddle-diddle and uses the wah-wah pedal with caution and care. Bjork's most impressive virtue is his wonderful Classic Rock songwriting style, evoking the spirits of the 70s, be it Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grand Funk Railroad, or Kiss ("The future rock"). An awesome album!
