The tradition comes from the USA of the 60s, because the day after Thanksgiving starts the Christmas business there. The two days after Thanksgiving are known to cause traffic jams and a huge crowd moving through the streets and shopping malls looking like a "Black Mass."

In this day, the most important stock exchange in the world, Wall Street or the New York Stock Exchange experienced massive price losses, which then also reached the European stock exchanges on Friday, i.e. one day later. These two days mark the beginning of the Great Depression in the USA and the Great Depression.
