by Benedikt Niederschmid (29.09.2006) This band from Boston is one of the bands who were predicted a bright future - which has never occurred really, at least in the old world. Sure: with "When worlds collide", Powerman 5000 had a hit over here, too. Still, the band is a minor note in the Metal meets Industrial genre most popular of bands, like White Zombie, Marilyn Manson or Nine Inch Nails. Plus the permanent band- and label problems made it difficult to follow the band. Now, Powerman 5000 around Rob Zombie's younger brother Spider are back. For "Destroy what you enjoy" the band let all digital experiments behind and produced a simple Rock album. Undisputable is the vocal parallels of the two Zombies, yet the musical differences only become bigger. The new material clearly introduces a new stylistic openness: influences from Rock'n'Roll, Punk and Country have replaced synthesizer and compressor.
