by Sonja Angerer (null) Fear Factory report back from the dead for one last time with one last album. But "Concrete" is not just a loveless collection of B-sides and previously unreleased tracks but the whole previously unreleased first album of the California boys. It was recorded in 1991 in the studio of Blacky Lawless (WASP) by the (back then) unknown Ross Robinson (Sepultura, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot). Many of the tracks later made it on a longplayer as alternate versions. But even truest Fear Factory fans won't notice that since "Concrete" goes back to a time when Rhys Fulber (Frontline Assembly) and his Keyboard, Electronic and Industrial elements weren't yet part of the band. From today's point of view "Concrete" features rather less spectacular Death/Trash Metal with melodic elements. Fear Factory were just getting started on a road which would take them to the classic "Obsolete". "Concrete" is a fascinating piece of music history not only for fans.
