by Markus Wosgien (12.07.2010) Ahhh... The band name is already that lugubrious that you can’t but lean back and let yourself overwhelm by that Doom / Sludge steamroller... Their great debut marked a high bar to jump over, but this one easily meets all expectations. The New Orleans five manage to deliver a nice plethora of hefty, irate little gems your ears will appreciate. Each single riff by Doom icon Kirk Windstein (Crowbar) is a reverberating belly experience, and this time, Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed) has focused less on Hardcore screaming and more on clean singing which suits him very well. Compositions like the pumping title track or "God’s law in the devil’s land" (with a nice injection of Southern Rock) are genuine, awesome groove monsters whereas psychedelic "From heroes to dust" reminds me a tad of Tool. In a nutshell: a great album which is (similar to the Down releases) a totally self-contained thing in spite of the band being an all star project.
