Alestorm:
"Voyage Of The Dead Marauder"
available as of 22.03.2024 at EMP ...!
In 2004, Christopher Bowes and Gavin Harper got together in their hometown of Perth, Scotland to form a metal band. They called themselves Battleheart and sang of pirates and their adventures in their local pub, finally releasing their first EP, featuring a cover of "Journey Man" by Korpiklaani, in April 2006.
This Finnish folk metal band was one of the role models that inspired Battleheart’s sound. In order to be able to perform live as a proper band, they then also got bassist Dani Evans and drummer Doug Swierczek on board.
Their next EP followed in October of the same year. With the release of “Terror on the High Seas”, the band earned the honour of being the only unsigned group on Metal Hammer's “Battle Metal Sampler V”. The attention surrounding the band grew quickly, and Battleheart was renamed: From that moment onwards they sailed under the name Alestorm, playing what they themselves describe as “True Scottish Pirate Metal”.
Alestorm - albums and achievements
Their first deal was quick to follow, and the group released their debut album “Captain Morgan's Revenge” in January 2008, underscoring the band’s folksy style. The record was well received and Alestorm quickly made a name for themselves throughout Europe.
These days they can be found at numerous smaller and larger festivals on a regular basis.
Their next EP “Leviathan” was released in 2008, followed by “Black Sails at Midnight” in 2009. Numerous tours later, more and more fans began to follow the burly pirate troupe. The story continued in June 2011, with the release of their third album “Back Through Time”. In 2013 they reached an even greater milestone: Playing at Wacken Open Air.
In the same year, the band released their first live album, followed by the fourth Alestorm album (Sunset on the Golden Age) the year after. The band still refused to take a break and continued to tour tirelessly across the seven seas, a huge crowd of fans always close behind. With “No Grave But The Sea” they took Pirate Metal to new heights - what an album!
