If you can't get a varied wardrobe through colours, you can through fabrics. Goths love materials that are reminiscent of old times or nobility. The opposite is equally popular: fabrics that are easy to tear or symbolise the torn. It depends on the splinter group of the scene when it comes to choosing the right fabric for a gothic outfit. Brocade, silk and lace are mainly found in the wardrobe of black romantics. Brocade trousers, brocade coats and brocade waistcoats are part of the male outfit, which of course women also wear. Velvet is reserved for the vampiresque goths. They wear dresses made of black panne velvet, trousers made of black panne velvet, bags and accessories made of black panne velvet - preferably with embroidered symbols such as bats or ankhs. The velvet clothes are also often trimmed with lace. Waver and batcavers like it more torn, with fishnet shirts and torn nylon tights. The EBMers wear cotton and the wavers also prefer breathable clothes like cotton blazers and cotton shirts. Their harem trousers are also made of cotton. The gothic rockers and the gothic metal faction are also seen in leather. Lacquer clothes have spilled over into the black scene from the neighbouring S/M scene, but are not originally characteristic of the Goths. It is the same with linen clothes, which originate from the medieval scene.
