by Andreas Reissnauer (01/02) Just in time for the "Lord of the rings"-hype, Napalm Records release the debut of Battlelore, a band that completely devoted to the fantasy-epic of Tolkien. While in Summoning, who have also devoted to this topic, elegic, majestic and sometimes monstrous soundscapes reign the scene, the Finns are less theatrical. Battlelore sound like a mixture of Cemetary and Tristania and should appeal to fans of variable Gothic Metal sounds. Keyboards are present, too, they are woven into the fat Metalsound. The vocals are rough but understandable (Cemetary), the female vocals are clear and not too high. No nerve-racking singing á la Liv Kristine. Discreet folk elements and intelligent acoustic guitars round off the picture of an absolutely convincing album. A band with a bright future, similar to that of Tristania! (Andreas Reissnauer - 01/02)
