by Marcel Anders (10.07.2008) Great cover artwork! Rivers Cuomo and his boys pose just like the Village People, moustache and cowboy hat included. But even apart from that, "The red album" is well the best Weezer output since the legendary '93 debut. Simply because the four Californians do not dwell on that strummy, intellectual Rock of the last few years, but step on it considerably with hefty Power Rock like "Troublemaker" or "Pork and beans", the homage to Metal "Everybody get dangerous" and a genuine Rock opera, "Dreamin´" (consisting of at least four different parts, and quoting as well Van Halen as The Who and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anyway, Weezer take their hats off to the last 40 years of Rock history - be it the Easybeats or the Rolling Stones, or the spirit of Kurt Cobain... They let off a terrific Garage Rock inferno which knocks your socks off - thumbs up for this one!
