by Olaf Plotke (20.03.2007) Thinking of Finnish Heavy Metal bands you immediately think of crazy musicians such as Lordi and Waltari. But there are others, too. The serious, straight edge Power Metal bands, e.g., thrilling us with their clear sound. One of them is Excalion, who with "Waterlines" release a great sophomore album. The ten songs of the album (plus a video and a bonus track) convince by their powerful instrumental section and an unbelievably melodious voice. Which makes Excalion so different and so thrilling. The riffs are heavily driving forward, the vocals are very emotional, resulting in ten catchy songs that are never schmaltzy and never boring but always great power Metal. Due to the fact that the Finns always have to be different, too, the bonus track is the song "Arriving at the dark" in the Finnish orginal version with many a's and double ae's, oe's and rolling r's. That's the way they are, the Finns. Crazy and always loveable and always a pleasure.
