by Markus Eck (04.03.2008) What a great surprise! I would have counted with a lot these days but never with such an improvement of the Dutch Heathen guys in comparison to their 2005-album, "De strijdlust is geboren". Still devoted to the two popular genres, Viking- and Folk-Metal, the ambitious six-piece from Gelderland sets numerous great, unique, creative accents on their new studio album, "Walhalla wacht". Consequently, the edgy troop around the two battle throats, Joris den Boghtdrincker and Mark Splintervuyscht convinces with some highly delightful song arrangements on this new triumph album. Almost exclusively refined with uplifting, self-assured, clear vocals of highly enchanting grace, the highly melodic, catchy compositions as well as the lively Folk-instrumentations give this album a beguilingly beautiful aura. And the fact that all epic hymns are sung in the native tongue of the players further increases the charms of this masterpiece.
