by Olaf Plotke (July 2005) How big the influence of the putatively 'side'-musicians of Savatage is on the music of the mega band can be seen in the solo effort of guitarist Chris Caffery. "W.A.R.P.E.D." sounds like a heavier version of a Savatage album. But first of all you have the confirmation that Caffery is not only an exceptional guitarist but also an excellent singer and composer. His second solo album features 70 minutes of exceptional Metal. The Savatage roots are not even tried to be denied and that's the best thing about it. Still you recognise that Caffery has his own head and his own ideas that only on his solo excursions can be celebrated like this. As usual in Savatage, also "W.A.R.P.E.D." is an album with a common thread: it deals with oppression, war and suffering. Caffery is no bubble-gum lyricist but uses harsh words, like in the song "Iraq attack" - the highlight on the album featuring Savatage mastermind, Jon Oliva on guest vocals. A must-have for all Savatage fans. (Olaf Plotke - July 2005)
