by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (23.04.2009) During the last years, Darkthrone have been very productive, with Fenriz preferring to hang out in the woods when not rehearsing or recording - in contrast to Nocturno Culto who has developped a penchant for the stage. Sarke, consisting only of him and said eponym in the studio, offers him the oppportunity to perform live. Musically, both bands are not worlds, but many nuances apart, with both leaning towards raw and organic analogue recordings, and both stressing their Celtic Frost influences - "Frost junkie" speaks volumes. The opening "Primitive killing" sets the pace: cold, groovy, then again turning into a simple Doom manifest... You can identify Nocturno's voice any given time although it sounds more natural and less brutal than in his other releases. The keyboard bits (as done on the title track) or the redundant melodic piano parts on creepy "13 candles" (no cover version of that Bathory song!!!) would cause a revolution on the tar chair!
