by Olaf Plotke (null) A flood of Medieval oriented Folk-Rock-bands and no end in sight. Schandmaul is another one of those band lifting up from the mass. The six-piece has been together since 1998, and on their first "real" album (the other first one was only released on a private basis) present a matured piece of music. The 47 minutes remind me of Subway To Sally at times of "Foppt den Dämon", when they had left their Punk influences behind and still far from Metal. Schandmaul have taken over the magic of Subway To Sally to write gloomy and thoughtful lyrics but to combine them with music that is pure fun and pleasure and shouts for a live representation. The song "Der junge Siegfrid" sounds as if it was played on a big drinking party, in "Frühlingstanz" you seem to be on a Medieval fest, added by powerful songs, like "Henkersmahlzeit", or the danceable "Die letzte Tröte" and the dreamy "Der Tropfen" and "Die goldene Kette". Medieval Folkrock like it should be.
