    Victory song

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (11.04.2007) The "Dragonheads" mini-CD was a great rest utilization, but it is this third album that really proves that Ensiferum don't break in the loss of their former singer, Jari MΓ€enpÀÀ (now Wintersun). In the pathetic (future live-) intro, "Ad victoriam" the sword leader known off the album covers rides through the thundering wind, before keyboardist Meiju bundles some of the motives of "Victory songs". First associations form up in his retinue for an open battle under the motto, "Blood is the price of glory", before the "Deathbringer from the sky" comes down with his Power Metal-vocals in the chorus. Typically Finnish, but very unique. Ensiferum don't take their warhorse image too seriously. Instead of drowning in winterly depression, the five rather have some funny drinks with the trolls of the woods ("One more magic potion") or have a speedboat-race with the Sea God, Ahti. "Victory songs" bursts for catchy, folky hymns - even the ten-minute, epic title track neither lacks in fun nor energy.
