by Benedikt Niederschmidt (31.03.2006) Their debut album, “Scars” and the successor “Redefine“ two years ago were bursting for cultivated macho-rock that really kicked ass. Both records, so the legend goes, were sold wet with testosterone. The average Americans were pleased and the days that the quintet has been on tour since have remained uncounted. Still, on this side of the pond, they have still been a very rare occurrence so that Soil haven't exceeded the insider status, yet. An impossible situation that could possibly change with “True self“. Of course, the band sticks to their roots but they deliver solid, riff-orientated, powerful and predominantly melodious rock in the likes of Staind, Godsmack or Sevendust. All that even though the band had to cope with the split of singer Ryan McCombs last year. Good to hear that his substitute, A. J. Cavalier does a perfect job, too. Definitely well rounded, this album!
