Excellent Service

SOAD cannot be mediocre at all, said a music journalist recently. How true: Their second album "Toxicity" from the year 2001 shines with deadly riffs, crude rhythms and really explicit texts. In 14 songs the quartet attacks everything what is remarkable between drug dealers and US government.

by Matthias Mineur (08/01) They opened up greatly on the Lollapallooza-tour, they convinced as a support for Slayer in Europe, they are the faves of Rock pope Rick Rubin, and they made numerous big magazines scream in excitement: System Of A Down are momentarily everybody's darling. Why? Probably because their competent Heavy Metal, a hot mixture of different styles and ages, spiced up with a big portion of modern tunes also attracts fans of non-Metal scenes. Maybe the topics around love, lust and pains of singer Serj Tankian are another reason for the masses' titillation. And maybe, the roaring guitar-riffs of Daron Malakian cause this euphoria. There is things that's for sure: if you have seen this band live on stage, you won't ever forget it! And if you listen to their current album, "Toxicity" with the adequate volume, you'll be fascinated. Pre-supposed you have stable nervous system and you know True- or Epic Metal only by the hearsay.
