10.Short Stories With Tragic Endings
Beyond any doubt, this is at first a confusing mixture of Hardcore, Emo and really heavy metal provided by FATA on their debut, here. The lyrics have depth and are either performed by Ben Perri (screams) or Francis Mark (melodic parts). Since the connections are sometimes a bit rough, you wish that the band would have decided for either style, especially because the calmer moments are predominantly convincing (see the acoustic guitars in the ballad-like "Chloroform Perfume" or the female vocals in the epic "Short Stories with Tragic Endings"). But then again, the album would have to do without the aggressive elements, which in case of e.g. "Cherry Kiss" are extremely intense and can be filed under metal core. After all, we'll have to wait and see if FATA will manage to combine the different styles more effectively without sounding too experimental. (Christian Bezdekovsky - April 2004)
