by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (08.10.2007) In the last months, Mr. Alan Averill was a welcomed guest on the records of Marduk and Desaster. As much as both records differed: the relevant songs were like written for his suffering, and yet, great voice; undulant, riven epics. Primordial have created a very unmistakably unique style that still doesn't make Alan an actor who is only set for a stereotype role. The Black Metal roots can still be heard – not only in the rare thunderstorms ("Traitors gate"). For this, the Irish don't have to cover any old heroes. Seven songs and the bridge passage, "The rising tide", completely different than "The cruel sea" make up a total of 54 minutes. With the hypnotic choirs in "As Rome burns", Primordial represent the counterpart to the metallic Egyptologists – and still are themselves. The raw production of the last album that hid some a melody was further intensified. At the same time, the Irish identity and the Folk parts have become more visible – "Heathen tribes" with its melancholic happiness even outlives Cruachan.
