Music for the spoiled ears of Black/Death Metal-fans. On "Theogonia" the Greek quartet affords also pioneer-like uncommon influences.

by Markus Eck (10.01.2007) It is self-evident that Rotting Christ is a bunch of sovereign and damned fine song writers and musicians. This fact already spread with the bright predecessor albums to the ears of the fans of demanding Black/Death Metal. Still, on "Theogonia" the inventive quartet does some pioneering work, this time in terms of unusual influences. In the mighty and epic opulent creations, you find e.g. sacral arrangements as well as charming exotic traditionalisms of Hellenic history. At the same time, they didn't decrease the heaviness - so the album kicks, whips and blasts in all corners of its wide stylistic range. The masterly integrated, occult conspiratorial and beguiling mystical atmospheres give the ten works of art a highly efficient life of their own that you can rarely resist. Excellent, this is pure Rotting Christ.
