by Matthias Mader (11.07.2006) Very, very strong what Rise Against have to offer on their new album, "The sufferer & the witness“. I was a bit sceptical first, though, because they wouldn't have been the first band who after a commercially successful album (the predecessor, "Siren song of the counter culture“ sold more than 400,000 copies worldwide) lost their edginess. But that's not what you could claim here: already the fast opener, "Chamber the cartridge" wipes all doubts away. Here and there, Rise Against really kick it very heavy, like in "Bricks“, still they never lack in catchiness. The obvious single release is "Ready to fall“ - this chours that wouldn't get out of my head (which appears a bit known, though, too) provides the absolute hit quality. A great album on the tracks of the old heroes, like Bad Religion, Black Flag and Chemical People.
