by Markus Wosgien (13.07.2006) Hardly any other act has stamped the death metal genre as much as Deicide, a band that has always been in the crossfire of the criticism. "The stench of redemption“ is another uncompromising statement against the church and reflects Glen Benton's antichrist attitude. Tracks like "Death to Jesus“ or "Homage for Satan“ are clear statements, and also the 2006-sound of Deicide speaks a clear tongue. Yet, with some newies after the Hoffmann brothers left the band last years. The heaviness didn't suffer in that, though - on the contrary. The two new guitar players, Jack Owen (ex-Cannibal Corpse) and Ralph Santolla (ex-Iced Earth and Death) immensely enrich the Americans' sound. Some filigree and very melodic riffs and solos are smuggling into the extremely heavy sound adding a lot of class and technical brilliance to the nine tracks of this unholy disc. The fresh winds are apparent in all corners making "The stench of redemption“ an absolute highlight in the death metal circus.
