Before his untimely death, Chester personally announced a Grey Daze reunion for 2017 on social media. Since he never had the chance to start the reunion himself, his bandmates, friends, family, and various collaborators stepped in to give the music the second chance it deserved and to finish what the late singer had begun. The musicians - long-time members Sean Dowdell [drums, backing vocals] and Mace Beyers [bass], as well as Cristin Davis [guitar] - came together in 2017 to embark on this artistic and personal endeavor. As the follow-up to their critically acclaimed and fan-loved album 'Amends' from 2020, this next chapter in their music is the culmination of their commitment to friendship. For 'The Phoenix,' the band teamed up with producer Esjay Jones and recorded a significant portion of the album at the legendary Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles.
