by Oliver Kube (03.04.2007) "The origins of ruin" is already Redemption's third album after the band was formed in 2000 by guitarist Nicolas van Dyk, featuring such prominent names, like Fates Warning-singer, Ray Alder as well as Bernie Versailles from Agent Steel. Fans of the great predecessors can relax noticing that stylistically little has changed. Still, the sound of the five is based on the classic sounds of Rush and Kansas, enriched by numerous heavy moments in the likes of Maiden, Savatage and Dream Theater or Megadeth. Killers, like "Used to be" or "The death of faith and reason" are edgy and cool and by the aid of the bold keyboardscapes at the same time extremely phat and voluminous, too. Still, Alder's voice never drowns in the Phone hurricane of his four colleagues. The epic, almost ten-minute long "Memory" and the directly following, dreamy, and unfortunately much too short title track with its great piano passages present the exceptional singer at his best with unusually calm moments.
