by Matthias Mader (06.09.2007) What the Dubliners had been for the 70s, and the Pogues for the 80s, the Dropkick Murphys have been for the 90s through today: organ of a punished minority – either in Dublin, London or Boston … The Dropkick Murphys have long outgrown their Bostoner Hardcore-sounds (their last studio album, "The warrior’s code", sold more than 200,000 units) and have become a legend for their fans. That’s what is impressively proven by their sixth album: Even considering the loads of epigones, no other band (with the exception of Social Distortion) manages to combine traditional (Irish) Folk with American Rock’n’Roll as skilfully as they do, making all pigeonholing (like Punk Rock) superfluous. With guest appearances of Spider Stacy (Pogues) and Ronnie Drew (Dubliners) they come full circle. Special sympathy bonus is further added by the Thin Lizzy-cover "Jailbreak" – now that is what I call style!
