No real surprise: the fourth album of the Canadians is exactly as we have expected it to be. 12 songs with big emotions, fat riffs and an extra portion of pathos as well as catchy melodies, anthemnic refrains and lyrics dealing with life as a rock star "on the road" - at least 50% of it. Cheering fans, willing groupies and cold beer cans. Things celebrated by four record millionairs from Vancouver in songs like "See You At The Show", "Flat On The Floor", "Feeling Way Too Damn Good" or the witty Elton John-cover "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" (feat. Kid Rock and Pantera's Dimebag Darrell). At the same time, frontman and bandleader, Chad Kroeger tries to be a socially critical songwriter and an ideal for his young fans. In times he sounds a bit preachy and teachy but it adds a mature note to the album. And that is a step into the right direction: to stadium rock with depth and style. (Marcel Anders - 03/10)
