by Oliver Kube (05.10.2006) Exactly ten years after "Car button cloth" one could be sceptical about this comeback of The Lemonheads. Especially because the lately very introverted Evan Dando is the only returning member of the band, now completed by the two ex-Descendents members Bill Stevenson (drums) and Kalr Alvarez (bass). But already the beautifully roaring opening "Black gown" wipes all sorrows away. All eleven songs are basically melancholic, provided with a lot of additionally elements. They are Punk as usual and Rock'n'Roll as always but also deeply rooted in the Country- and Westcoast-Rock of the 70s. Not even in rhythmically intricate "Steve's boy", provided with a nice Hammond organ, the sweet, poppy "Become the enemy" or the rocking "No backbone" featuring Dinosaur Jr-boss, J Mascis on guitar leaves the slightest doubts: this album is exactly the way an album of The Lemonheads has to sound.. They are really back, and that's just fantastic!
