by Oliver Kube (18.07.2008) Be prepared for the unexpected: when the Post Grunge-Superstars hired soundman Johnny K. (a.o. Disturbed) as producer for their sixth album, they intended to record the roughest and toughest album of their career... Three years after "Chapter v", the new output is anything but hard`n`heavy. Granted, the CD has its vigorous and dirty moments ("Save me", "Rainy day parade"), yet offers more than mere speed. As usual, frontman Aaron Lewis dominates everything with his charismatic voice and profound lyrics. But this time, his band is as versatile as it never has been so far: hefty anthems Γ  la "Believe" are followed by emotional ballads like "The corner" (crowned with wonderful gospel singing) or the acoustical "Tangled up in you". "All i want", though, is clearly influenced by Country music, whereas "Pardon me" conjures up the bombast atmosphere of late Pink Floyd - and "Lost along the way" comes up with some beautiful Blues elements. Essential stuff!
