by Jürgen Tschamler (04.04.2007) Despised Icon come from Canada and can be filed under Deathcore: a stylistic mix of Grind-, Metal- and Chaoscore. Also Death Metal influences come in. In the underground, the sixtet has an excellent reputation which is now underpinned by their new album. The band founded in 2002 is made up by ex-members of In Dying Days, Heaven's Cry and Neuraxi. Accordingly, the very young band members are musically handicapped that means they heavily beat and growl through their new album. Unfortunately, I didn't have the song titles, yet, but in fact the songs are not that very different from each other, anyway. The growls, I have to admit, are the hardest part for me because they immensely increase the Death Metal-effect. I like the album (mixed by Andy Sneap; Machine Head, Megadeth) best when the Hardcore influence wins over the rest. This hybrid of Death Metal and Core-elements is definitely one of the best in this category.
