by Matthias Mineur (04/01) Jon Schaffer calls this his best album ever. The new member Tim Owens calls it the biggest chance in his post-Judas-Priest life. Only ex-singer Matthew Barlow - already forgotten by now - was left standing in the rain. If his version really was so much weaker than that of Owens? We'll never find out. Fact is, however, that band boss Schaffer - a fanatic fan of military memorabilia and collector of devotionals - has never before brought in his personal liking for the American history as in the epic "Gettysburg". Divided into three parts, this is a metallic, monumental 32-minute battle. This breathtaking track alone gives us everything that Schaffer established as the trademarks of the band: guitars that burn themselves into the flesh of the listener, drum parts that seem to want to crush the eardrums and now the cutting vocals of the new crowned metal kind Owens. Who would want to stop this band?
