12.Enthroned In Isolation
by Matthias Mader (13.06.2008) Finally! No false labelling any more as far as honourable Victory Records are concerned. No death metal CD sailing coyly under the flag of metalcore, emocore or even hardcore any more - thanks to Carnifex. They proudly wear Emperor- and Cannibal Corpse-shirts, so their promoters didn't have any other choice: the boys from San Diego are said to be the leaders of the "New Wave of American Death Metal". Rightly so - the twelve songs on "The diseased and the poisoned" make no prisoners: Obituary-like grunts from hell meet clean death metal (think Immolation here), spiced up with one or the other break, but never that complex like the immortal Pestilence. There are also some sporadic high speed blast parts of course, but overall, Carnifex are iron-willed to compose well-structured songs avoiding destination free jazz land.
