Excellent Service

Even before the "Something Wicked" concept with the second part "The crucible of man" was finished, Jon Schaffer dismissed Ripper Owens. Matt Barlow returned to Iced Earth. In regards to content as well as music, heavy stuff that one must work for.

    Epilogue

by Poseidon (18.07.2008) Iced Earth are back! The single "I walk among you" and various summer festival dates with Judas Priest were impressive harbingers of that comeback: "The crucible of man" kicks ass - big time. From the bombast intro "In sacred flames" to the opener "Behold the wicked child": it is clear who’s the leader of the pack. Jon Schaffer’s über-riffing, a phat and impressive production and above all, the voice of the returned Matt Barlow seem to say: home - at last. Other highlights: the mid-tempo smasher "Minions of the watch", the Schaffer/Barlow duet "A gift or a curse", the aforementioned single "I walk alone" plus the ultimate blasts "Crucify the king" and "Come what may"- those should catapult not only Iced Earth fans, but any given Prog Metal fan into blissful happiness. This is it - Iced Earth are unstoppable now.
