by Jürgen Tschamler (20.04.2009) The Chelsea Smiles have been established by ex-Danzig, ex-D-Generation guitarist Todd Youth - so far, they have released one EP and one album (2006). On heir new album, they stick to their style: Punk-ish Glam Rock, sometimes sounding like a mixture of The Hellacopters, The Ramones, and the New York Dolls - not very unique, but in this case nevertheless worth an ear. The songs are very reduced, the focus is definitely on the melody. "On the run", the second track, may very well be a potential hit, and there are some more to come in the course of the album. The boys keep it simple and pure, but all the numbers are packed with this positive, sunny, summer feeling - you just have to sing along! The production is a bit too mild, but other than that, there's a lot of well-placed riffs and a lot of groove. This is not for you average cocky fast-forward blokes, but more for the melody lover and harmony fan. Timeless stuff, that.
