With a 46-year music career, Billy Idol is still a constantly evolving myth. As an intellectual bookworm and cave-dweller of the internet age, he finds a modern language for the fiery Eddie Cochran-meets-Ziggy Stardust roar he has been generating since he first stepped on stage. All of this can be heard on The Cage EP, which will be released on September 23rd via Dark Horse Records. It includes four tracks that both captivate and raise eyebrows, like classic Idol songs. It has been exactly one year since Billy Idol released his last EP, also on Dark Horse Records, founded by George Harrison. The Roadside was produced by Butch Walker and is influenced by both directness and urgency, as well as uncertainty and darkness during the pandemic. A lot has happened during this time. Primarily, Billy Idol and Steve Stevens went on Tour again, and this incredible energy transferred to their new work. 'Cage,' the title track of the EP, may be Billy and Steve's most fierce and unapologetic punk rock song in decades. In fact, one might think that the wild riffs, driving melodies, and Morse code-like rhythms have been transported from Generation X into the 21st century.
