"The burning red" is a controversial topic among Machine Head fans, not because of the cover of "Message in a bottle" by the Police, but due to its unmistakeable Nu Metal tendancies - however, the album was rehabilitated retrospectively by most of the hardliners.

    The Burning Red

by Benni Niederschmidt (07/99) Machine Head are back! Hurray! Happy, happy, joy, joy! Guitarist Ahrue Luster will replace Mr. "gone-crazy" Logan Mader. And Korn producer Ross Robinson left his mark in the sound of the Bay Area trashers and catapults them to the top of the burntime metal fraction with "The Burning Red". Robb Flynn's vocals are more varied than ever and musically they don't do harm to anybody. Nobody does it better than Machine Head to combine dreamy melody hooklines with uncompromising heavyness, "Silver" or "The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears" sparkle with refrains which will break your heart. The opener "Desire To Fire" and "From This Day" have best neck-break qualities and the Police cover "Message In A Bottle" is definitely better than the original. With this album Machine Head are up, up and away to rock heaven!
