by Matthias Mader (06.09.2007) Every Time I Die are among those rare, yes almost extinct species of Bands. A Hardcore/Metal-act with humour (as was proven e.g. on their great DVD, "Shit happens", too). Also on their new album, "The big dirty", big moustaches, black sunglasses, beards and rattlesnakes reign. The twelve songs, however, never drown to the musical or intellectual spheres of bands that are generally regarded as "humourous" (J.B.O. or Vicki Vomit). On the contrary: songs, like the hypnotic opener, "No son of mine", the staccato-like "Pigs is pigs" and "Imitation is the sincerest form of battery" are like a musical, therapeutic living cell therapies. In a cathartic and poetic way, things are being combined that should never work, such as Southern Rock and melodic Hardcore, Hardrock and Emocore. Fugazi meets Black Flag with a great dosis of Lynryd Skynyrd.
