11.Word To The Wise
by Patrick Schmidt (April 2004) Death Angel, one of the most innovative metal band of all return with a masterly new album! 14 years have past since their last killer, "Act III" and still, the San Francisco thrashers come along as fresh and juvenile as ever. A sensation? Somehow, yes, because also on their fourth album they offer mercilessly driving forward thrash metal combined with modern elements, and still they are capable of writing true hits en masse. The album starts off with in old school vein with the powerful thrasher, "Thrown To The Wolves", before with "5 Steps Of Freedom" they ignite the first earwig-shell. This band is and remains unique, here, metal becomes a discovery. Exceptional, musical abilities don't result in endless, egocentric solo plays but in fantastic songs. The thrilling, acoustic ballad, "Word To The Wise" and the straight rocking "Spirit" are two more songs you should check out. No matter if you're a young or old metal fans, this band has to be loved. Death Angel have written Thrash-history, and with "The Art Of Dying", too, are way ahead of their time. Careful: highly addictive! (Patrick Schmidt - April 2004)
