The work of Deafheaven can be located somewhere between black metal and post rock. On their second album "Sunbather" the American band based around George Clarke and Kerry McCoy spark a solar storm-like sound spectacle that you can't elude. Right on the opening track Clarkes agonizing vocals and McCoys hypnotic guitar connect with each other before everything sinks into eternal darkness with an ulterior melody. Deafheaven discover new soundscapes and lift themselves up into heavenly spheres. A dark masterpiece and a delicacy for fans of Mogwai, Godspeed You!, Black Emperor, Xasthur and Drudkh.
