by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (13.06.2008) Their last album was an overture to mass slaughter - with their poisonous sixth one, the Belgians present their symphony of horror. Considering the abundance of beautiful melodies ("135") and sophisticated harmonies (Hereditary bane"), you can hardly imagine that ten years ago, in their early days, they just focused on unlimited brutality... Don't get me wrong: they're still morbidly violent, Carcass is still hovering somewhere in the back - but yet, the band has gotten ahead of its former idols: some tiny electronic effects here ("The chyme congries"), an acoustic guitar intro ("A murmur in decrepit wits") and a few groovy dance beats for the boogie of death there ("Enterrement of an idol") - after the opening requiem, most of us are carrion anyway. It's all a matter of dosage: strychnine is rat poison - but also listed as a doping substance...
