by Marcel Anders (04.04.2007) Finally a British band that doesn't try to jump the Emo- or New Wave-train but rather concentrates on their own image and sound. To be more exact: maybe, The Horror even think too much about it. Beginning with the wild mob hairs reminding me of Paul Stanley, Johnny Thunders and Bill Kaulitz, via pseudonyms, like Faris Rotter, Joshua Third, Tomethy Furse, Spider Webb and Coffin Joe, to their musical declaration of love for their idol, Screaming Lord Sutch. A cult rocker of the mid-sixties, who, long before Alice Cooper brought the horror- and shock-elements onto the stage but was rather smiled at and who committed suicide in 1999. In The Horrors, all guys from the upper class, the pioneer lives on. With heavily psychedelic Weirdo-Rock living by the rumbling organ, manic vocals, diffuse guitar licks and an extra-portion morbidity. The perfect soundtrack for every Vincent Price-movie. At the same time, The Horrors also incorporate some Surf, pure Avant-garde and Jazz elements, too. A real trip!
