by Oliver Kube (13.06.2008) Billy Joe Armstrong & Co. like to think outside their Green Day box - we know that since their New Wave revival "Money money 2020", released five years ago under the pseudonym of The Network. The trio's latest side project is named Foxboro Hot Tubs, stretching its roots even deeper into the past. Songs like the turbulent title track or the rattling "Highway 1" are definitely headed towards Sixties garage Rock à la Paul Revere And The Raiders or The Kingsmen, whereas the upbeat but at the same time subliminally melancholic "Mother mary", "Alligator" oder "Ruby room" could be taken from an old record of legendary The Kinks or Tommy James And The Shondells. The recording of this relaxed, but yet passionate, intense disc must have been big fun, as can be easily heard. The result: a perfect opportunity for all young Green Day followers to get their fill of musical history - which may lead to some rummaging in (grand?)pa's old record collection…
